Adventure Hook 013 – The Egg

Whoops – I’ve gotten a bit behind due to circumstance beyond my control, so today, in an effort to catch up with my schedule of adventure hooks, I bring you a triple threat – Adventure Hooks 012, 013, and 014 all in one day.  AH012 was already posted, so here is AH013…

ADVENTURE HOOK 013

Location:

The capitol city of the region in which the PCs usually adventure.

Situation:

A prominent and popular politician resigns his post unexpectedly.  An anonymous interested party has placed a notice on the local message boards seeking investigative help.

Problem:

1) The politician doesn’t want to talk to anyone about his resignation

2) The ‘anonymous’ party that posted the notice gives only one clue as to what he wants investigated about the resignation.  That clue: “find the egg”

3) The replacement politician is less-than-likely to let the party come in and riffle through his office just because the last guy resigned

Tasks:

The players need to

1) Find out why the politician resigned

2) Find out what the egg is and what it has to do with anything

Things to explore:

1) The party can interview the replacement politician to get information, as well as any political rivals

2) The party can talk to the politician’s family, allies, and assistants to get an idea of the politician’s life

3) The party can investigate the ambiguous clue by trying to find out information about an egg.  They may find that the egg is a small, crystal, egg-shaped artifact of ancient origin.  Legend says that it is imbued with the soul energy of a young, mischievous copper dragon.  Legend also says that the egg-soul likes to convince members of the ‘civilized, thinking races’ to do things that they would not normally find agreeable – it’s the egg’s entertainment.

4) The party may find that the egg-soul found its way into the hands of the politician and has convinced him that resigning his post would be in his best interest.

5) The egg may have been given to the politician by one of his rivals, as a gift.  This rival could have presented himself as a friend of the politician and become a trusted ally, and then given the gift knowing it would be the end of the politician.  In this way, it may be difficult for the party to determine who the actual enemies of the politician may be.

Suggestions:

Once again, lots of opportunities for skill challenges here.  Also lots of role-playing to be had by PCs and DM alike – make use of it!

That’s the end of Adventure Hook 013! – the last one will follow shortly.-

I hope you are enjoying this series – post a comment and let me know what you think of them!  Are they helpful?  Is there something you wish I would address?

By the way, my blog will be moving web-hosting services in the next week or two.  I will retain the wordpress shell, so not much will change, but the bookmark you use may need to be updated.  I’ll keep you posted!

Until next time, I wish you good gaming!
